NORCE

About Partner

NORCE is an independent research institute, which conducts research, development and innovation in collaboration with the public and private sector so that wise and sustainable choices can be made for the future. We have extensive activity in energy, health, climate, environment, society and technology. Our ambition is to be a national and European leader in our areas of focus.

Our vision

"Passion for knowledge - together for sustainability" is our vision. Visions oblige. Cultivating knowledge for sustainability provides direction for our research.

Our mission

NORCE emphasizes multidisciplinary research. In our four focus areas, we gather expertise across subjects and organisations. We address concrete challenges such as climate change, energy transition, the aging population, social inequality and young outsiders

Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research

NORCE is based at the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research, which is one of Europe’s leading centres for natural science-based climate research, bringing together more than 200 researchers from over 30 countries. Established in 2000 and named after pioneering meteorologists Vilhelm and Jacob Bjerknes, the centre continues their legacy of advancing understanding of the climate system and its changes over time.

Based in Bergen, the centre is a collaboration between the University of Bergen, the Institute of Marine Research, the Nansen Center for Environment and Remote Sensing, and NORCE. Its research spans global and polar climate, the carbon system, and climate hazards – combining modelling, observations, and theory to improve knowledge of both natural and human-driven climate change.
